Professor Tiffany Rhynard Directs Film to be Screened at Askew Student Life Center

The FSU School of Dance and Askew Student Life Center will be screening Forbidden: Undocumented and Queer in Rural America, a film by FSU Dance Professor Tiffany Rhynard, on Thursday, March 22nd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. A pre-screening reception will be held in the Globe Lounge from 4:45 to 5:15pm. Light refreshments will be provided during the reception and all are welcome to attend.

When Moises Serrano was just a baby, his parents risked everything to flee Mexico and make the perilous journey across the desert in search of the American dream. Growing up in the rural south where he is forbidden to live and love, Moises sees only one option—to fight for justice. Forbidden illustrates the intersection of queer and immigrant issues and addresses the realities facing LGBTQ minorities who have grown up in the rural south surrounded by white faces and homophobic attitudes.

A panel discussion will be held directly after the screening. Panelists include: Moises Serrano (protagonist), Tiffany Rhynard (Director and FSU Assistant Professor), and Terry Coonan (Director, Center for Advancement of Human Rights). Miguel Hernandez (Center for Leadership and Social Change) will moderate the discussion
