Vincent V. and Agatha Thursby Endowment in the College of Fine Arts (F06213)

Published March 20, 2018

Vincent V. Thursby was a distinguished Political Science Professor and Dean at Florida State University. He served at Florida State from 1951 until 1977 when he retired and received the designation of Professor Emeritus. Generations of students studied under Professor Thursby and have benefited from his expansive knowledge, wisdom, and humor. He served in World War II as a gunnery instructor. After the war, he dedicated the rest of his life to education. He received a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Vanderbilt University in his home state of Tennessee. Later he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1950.

During Dr. Thursby’s tenure at Florida State University, he took art courses and found a passion for art and museums. He and his beloved wife, Agatha, were passionate about giving today’s students the same opportunities as they had. The Vincent V. and Agatha Thursby Endowment in the College of Fine Arts supports Visiting Artist Lectures in the College of Fine Arts, as well as the Distinguished Scholar Lecture Series for Art History.
