Florida State University’s Department of Art MFA student, Ashton Bird has taken resourceful measures to foster the creativity of emerging contemporary artists in and around the Tallahassee, Florida area through “SOUP Experimental.”

The Department of Art Education’s Art Therapy Program recently hosted its second of three summer weekend courses, which was taught by visiting professor Dr. Janice Hoshino. This course focused on a multicultural approach to family art therapy.

Alumna Dr. Karlyn Griffith (PhD 2014) will join the faculty of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as Assistant Professor of Art History this fall – the culmination of an outstanding year of academic rewards for the young professor.

For the second year in a row, students in the Department of Interior Architecture + Design dominated the Retail Design Institute’s (RDI) student national design competition. Congratulations to Emily Haynes, who received first place in the 2016 competition for her retail design.

Since it’s inception in 2012, 79 dance students have traveled to Paris as part of the FSU Dance in Paris program under the umbrella of the FSU International Programs/Summer Study Abroad. This year’s Dance in Paris was filled with “firsts” including a visit to the Paris Opera Ballet School.

Theatre Alum Carlie Craig (BA in Theatre, 2013), a comedic actress, singer, comic, impressionist, dancer and occasional rapper, has been cast in the new MADtv sketch comedy series, which returned to the CW television network on July 26.

Small Craft Advisory Press (SCAP) welcomed their newest collaborator, Sean P. Morrissey, into the studios at Facility for Arts Research (FAR) in May 2016. During the visit, Morrissey worked alongside SCAP’s Denise Bookwalter, AB Gorham, and Sara White.

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training has received a $10,000 grant from the Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation, which will support its upcoming production “Shakespeare in the Gardens: A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

Three School of Dance alumni returned to FSU in 2015-16 with Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) visiting artists. MANCC hosts artists for 1-3 weeks, offering time, space and research opportunities to further their work.
