FSU Professor Emerita Honored at Columbia Symposium

An all-day symposium in honor of Professor Emerita Paula L. Gerson was held at Columbia University on March 29, supported by Columbia University’s Department of Art History and Archaeology; the Index of Christian Art, Princeton University; Young Harris College; and  students, friends and colleagues of Professor Gerson.

Former and current graduate students Sarah Andyshak, Deirdre Carter, Carey Fee, Jennifer Feltman, Karlyn Griffith, and Kara Morrow organized Lux nova: Innovative Approaches to Medieval Art and Architecture to celebrate the accomplished career of Prof. Gerson, who retired last spring.

Over 100 colleagues, former and current students, family members, and friends gathered at Schermerhorn Hall on Columbia University’s campus to listen to papers honoring Prof. Gerson’s research, museum studies, and teaching. The presenters included Holger Klein (Columbia Univ.), Nancy Wu (Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Cloisters), Genevra Kornbluth (Kornbluth Photography Archive), William W. Clark (Graduate Center, CUNY), Thomas Waldman (Univ. of Pennsylvania), Jennifer M. Feltman (Young Harris College), Manuel Castiñeiras (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Alison Stones (Univ. of Pittsburg), Carey E. Fee (Florida State Univ.), Michele Vescovi (Univ. of York), Stephen Murray (Columbia Univ.), Elizabeth Valdez del Alamo (Montclair State Univ.), Pamela Sheingorn (Baruch College, CUNY), John Brandi (New Jersey City University), and Charles T. Little (Metropolitan Museum of Art).
