Position Title

Assistant Professor, Museum Education and Exhibition, 9 month salary

Effective Date

Fall 2014

Salary Information

Salary negotiable based upon qualifications, education, and experience.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • a graduate degree in museum education or art museum education as well as an earned doctorate in a closely related field
  • an established record of published research and presentations on museum education or art museum education and exhibitions
  • knowledge of current trends in museum education or art museum education and exhibition teams
  • experience in team curation or visitor-centered exhibitions
  • experience collaborating and working as part of a team
  • professional museum education or art museum education work experience (>3 years)
  • experience supervising interns in a museum setting
  • experience evaluating museum exhibitions using quantitative and qualitative methods
  • full-time university teaching experience in museum education, art museum education, or closely related field
  • experience supervising student projects and research
  • documented success in student recruitment
  • an international museum focus
Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform teaching, research, and service activities in museum education and visitor-centered exhibitions.

Department

The Florida State University Museum Education and Exhibitions program within the Department of Art Education has a position available for an assistant professor whose focus is on education, research, and service is museum education and visitor- centered exhibitions.

The Department of Art Education maintains a strong commitment to the philosophy of art for life and especially social justice issues.  It is the oldest department of its kind in the Southeast and one of the elite art education departments in North America, and has recently become solely a graduate program department. The department is accredited through both NCATE and NASAD. The department offers master’s degrees in art education, arts administration, and art therapy.  We also offer the doctorate in art education with specializations in art education, arts administration, art therapy, and museum education and exhibitions.  The department recently moved into a newly renovated, state-of-the-art, LEED-certified facility with the Departments of Interior Design and Art History from the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance
