Alum Brings Cuban Artist to Tallahassee in One-Day Exhibit
Jeannette Windham (BA Art History, 1969) is a Florida Artist/Writer with a degree from Florida State University with specializations in Art History, Studio Art and Education. While living in Malaysia, Windham studied at the Malaysian Institute of Art under the Master Painter Chung Chen Sun. During travels to more than 50 countries Windham developed an interest and skill in visual essay. Her photos, drawings and stories provide lasting images of global friends, who, while facing a challenging world, portray great dignity and warmth.
Windham’s Windows on the World series, published in the mid-1990’s, have found a wide audience among armchair travelers of all ages though originally targeted toward younger audiences aged 8-18.
After discovering the art of Fernando Leon Hartman through her travels to Cuba, Jeannette helped coordinate the artist’s first U.S. exhibition, which will be on display at Tallahassee Community College on Friday, January 31 from 6-9pm in TCC’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, 444 Appleyard Drive Tallahassee, FL.

[tabs slidertype=”top tabs”] [tabcontainer] [tabtext]About Fernando Leon Hartman[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent] [tab]Born in Havana, Cuba, Hartman’s first career was in electrical engineering but, after working in this field for five years, he decided to follow his dream and study art at the prestigious Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes – San Alejandro, Havana. Hartman graduated in 2012 and then began selling his oil paintings to international clients visiting Cuba. Now in his mid-twenties and a renowned and promising young artist, Hartman has received an Artist’s Exchange Visa to travel and show his work in the United States. The fine quality of Hartman’s artwork makes him an exceptional painter, as the treatment of light, shadow, and reflections in glass in his still life paintings have been comparable to the finest European masters of the 18th century. Hartman will be prepared to speak with students and guests about why he became a painter, his inspiration and growing up in Cuba. All of his paintings will also be on sale at the exhibition.
