Alumnae Attend Cross-Cultural Asian Art Education International Conference in South Korea

This year , on August 7th through the 9th, Sookmyung Women’s University hosted the 3rd annual Cross  Cultural  Asian  Art  Education  International  Conference in Seoul, South Korea. Those who attended the conference were a myriad group of art educators, artists and policy makers interested in coming together to share their research and practices.

FSU Alums at Cross-Cultural Asian Art Education International Conference in South Korea

The theme of the conference this year was Culture, Communication and Art Education. The conference sought to:

“explore cross-cultural communications through art education and examine art education practices of Asian countries to empower and build cultural capabilities with educational implications.” (CAAE, 2014)

Haikyung Kim, associate professor at Gyeongin National University of Education in South Korea and Florida State University alumna, shared her contribution to the conference:

“…I explored cross-cultural communications through art education and examined art education practices of Asian countries to empower and built cultural capabilities with educational implications.”

Several other FSU Department of Art Education alumnae were also in attendance including:

  • Saejune Kim, Professor at Sookmyung Women’s University
  • Oksun Lee, Assistant Professor at the University of Central Oklahoma
  • Yichien Chen Cooper, Adjunct Faculty at Washington State University
  • Jeonghyo Kim, Senior Researcher at Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation
  • Joohee Kang, Senior Researcher at Korea National Research Institute for the Gifted in Arts

We are always excited to see our FSU Noles making strides to come together and celebrate their alma mater regardless of international distances.
