BauerBannercropThe Department of Art History is pleased to welcome Dr. Doron Bauer as Assistant Professor this fall. Dr. Bauer (PhD, Johns Hopkins University) specializes in Medieval and Islamic art. He is currently working on two book-length projects. The first, Lost at Sea, explores the role of the Balearic islands in mediating transculturation processes across the Mediterranean space. The second, Sociolithic, explores the manners in which stone extended to social during the High Middle Ages –how stone became, by being processed or by “itself,” meaningful to human beings.

Dr. Bauer is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Kunsthistorische Institut in Florence (2011–2012) and the Chateaubriand Fellowship from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009–2010). Before coming to FSU, he taught at the University of California, Irvine.
