The Florida State University School of Theatre has an internationally recognized faculty known for their outstanding teaching, creativity and professional experiences. Founded in 1973, the School of Theatre enjoys a national reputation, in large part, because of the excellence of its undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a gifted faculty of nationally recognized professional artists/educators. None short of its well-established reputation, Award Winning Actor Michael Hayden joins the prestigious roster of FSU Theatre faculty. Most known for his work in television crime dramas “Law & Order” and “Murder One”, Tallahassee Magazine recognizes Hayden in “Award-Winning Actor Michael Hayden a Talented New Addition at FSU’s School of Theatre” by Laura Bradley.
An Assistant Professor of Acting in the BFA program, Michael graduated from St. John’s University in Minnesota with a BA in Theatre. A graduate of the Juilliard School of Acting, Michael has taught classical and contemporary acting in conjunction with The Acting Company in New York City, as well as offering private audition and acting sessions. He has offered Shakespeare seminars at universities throughout the United States.
In an excerpt from the Tallahassee Magazine article, Hayden explains the most rewarding aspect of teaching:
Suddenly they’re doing a kind of work they didn’t do before … . You want them to learn from you, and be distant from you, and at the same time you want to engender a kind of rebellion so when they’re acting they’re not worrying at being good.
