Bare Truths: Eiko and Koma in Naked

Published April 12, 2011

In this week’s April 11 New Yorker Magazine, dance critic Joan Acocella’s story Bare Truths: Eiko and Koma in Naked quotes from Shoko Letton’s MA American Dance Studies thesis Eiko and Koma: Dance Philosophy and Aesthetic. Acocella’s piece on Naked (performed at Baryshnikov Art Center from March 29 through April 9) uses biographical information from Letton’s MA thesis for which she received a 2008-2009 Graduate Student Research and Creativity Award from Florida State University and was recognized nationally by Dance Films Association at the 2009 Dance On Camera Festival.

Shoko Letton worked for Eiko and Koma as a co-editor for Dancing in Water: the Making of River in 2009, The Making of Cambodian Stories in 2006, and as an editor for Death Poem from 2005 through 2006. Letton is currently working as a filmmaker at Florida State University’s Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC).
