Florida State University art student MANDEM and art professor Carrie Ann Baade are showing work in the “POP Femme Sugar Coated Strange 2014” exhibit at POP Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
“POP Femme” features the Women of New Brow Contemporary Art creating works beyond mere whimsy, often dark & mysterious and taking cues from old masters and religious icons while referencing the ancient myths of feminine power. Baade and MANDEM will be showing with internationally acclaimed artists including Tammy Otis, Zoe Williams, Phresha LeVandale, Stefanie Vega, Marie Sena, Kristen Margiotta, Julie Zarate, Kate Samuels and Lea Barozzi among others.
“POP Femme” is the gallery’s Seventh Annual Benefit with an art raffle and a portion of the proceeds to benefit Southwest C.A.R.E. Center.
Carrie Ann Baade will be speaking about her work during the artist reception for “POP Femme Sugar Coated Strange” on October 3, 5-7pm.
While in New Mexico, Baade will also be presenting “Critics and Kitsch: Looking under the Lowbrow” at The Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, on Wednesday, October 1 at 7pm. Her work is included in the Harwood Museum’s “¡Orale! Kings and Queens of Cool,” an exhibition focusing on the Post-Pop/Lowbrow art movement. Visit to learn more.
MANDEM also has artwork showing at PINNACLE (Tallahassee, FL), The 27th September Competition (Alexandria, LA), NEXUS (Sarasota, FL), The 26th Art in Gadsden (Quincy, FL) and a tribute auction (Santa Fe, NM) and will be presenting “Medusa, from Ovid to Cixous to ‘Once Upon A Time'” as part of the Wicked Women in Art session at the SECAC conference in October.
