The proposed course of research for this grant supports the completion of my recent body of work, Through the Parallax, and contributes toward expenses for research and exhibition. My research consists of creating imaginative, realist paintings as meta-narratives informed by religion and mythology. As a nationally and internationally emerging artist, this grant would permit time to complete these labor-intensive paintings. The techniques implemented use the methods of old masters, with many layers requiring copious amounts of time to develop. The resulting work will consist of at least seven large oil paintings, each approximately 36 x 48 inches. The total installation space will run approximately 40 feet.

The planned research during the month of June includes the Gustav Moreau Museum in Paris and the Tate in London. The former holds by far Moreau’s most complete body of work and, of especial interest, works in progress but never finished. Understanding his unique style of ink underpainting will be crucial to this body of work.

Part of this body of work will be included in two surveys of contemporary artists, New Surrealism and Dreams and Divinities, both due for release in late 2013. This is part of a touring exhibition in Spain and France. I will be attending the opening for this in Paris this summer.

Completion of this new body of work is essential to fulfilling my obligations to upcoming exhibitions locally, nationally, and internationally. In 2013, my work will have solo shows at the Tallahassee City Hall, and Dragon Con in Atlanta.
