October 20, 2015 marked the first Opening Nights Performing Arts Series Creative Conversations panel discussion of the 2015-2016 season.
It was titled “Behind the Curtain – Planning a Season in the Performing Arts,” and the panelists were Mr. Christopher Heacox (Director of Opening Nights Performing Arts), Mr. Cameron Jackson (The School of Theatre at Florida State’s Executive Director & Producing Artistic Director), Dr. Alexander Jiménez (Director of Orchestral Activities & Professor of Conducting at Florida State University, Artistic Director of the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras), and Dr. André J. Thomas (Director of Choral Activities & Owen F. Sellers Professor of Music at Florida State University, Artistic Director of the Tallahassee Community Chorus).
The directors of several campus arts organizations discussed the long and short range planning involved in presenting and producing performing arts events. From booking artists to selecting plays to finding musical repertoire that challenges and excites, it was an engaging and informative discussion. Light hors d’oeuvures will be served, and a bar was open throughout the evening.
