“THERE’S no denying that museums are going after dance with a vengeance. This spring the Whitney Museum of American Art is stepping it up with a doozy of a doubleheader showcasing the choreographers Michael Clark and Sarah Michelson. As part of this year’s Whitney Biennial the museum’s fourth floor, which adds up to 6,000 square feet of valuable gallery space, will be turned over to music, theater and dance.
It’s a daring move by the Biennial’s organizers, Elisabeth Sussman and Jay Sanders, as are the choices of Mr. Clark and Ms. Michelson. They are hard-core dance creators. This isn’t performance or an installation with movement. The Biennial is backing serious dance.”
