“What gives value to an object? If you were to take an expensive object and remake it out of inexpensive materials does the object then become worthless? Does time spent creating an object have any effect on what it is worth? Does time alone make an object more valuable? While some may favor the prestige of a high price tag over the value of one’s time, a memory associated with an item can transform it into something priceless. Why is this?
My work is an investigation of value, its effect on an object, and why we are compelled to hold certain types of value in higher regard than others. I am exploring this concept by creating “heirloom-esque” pieces which would normally hold both monetary and personal value out of store bought materials of very little value.” – Erin Stanley
