Event Details
On October 6th & 7th, 2017 the Department of Art History will proudly host our 35th Annual Graduate Student Symposium in room 2005 of the William Johnston Building (WJB). This annual event brings together graduate students from programs around the country for presentation and discussion of their research. These young scholars will present 20-minute papers, each followed by critical discussion with students, faculty, and visiting scholars. The keynote address is delivered by a visiting scholar as part of the Thursby Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series. This year’s keynote speaker is Edward J. Sullivan, Helen Gould Sheppard Professor of the History of Art at New York University. Professor Sullivan specializes in art of Latin America, 19th/20th century art of the Iberian Peninsula, and 17th/20th century Caribbean art. He will present “Samba as a Metaphor Performativity in Brazilian Art: 1960s-1990s” during the keynote address.
