Event Details

On Tuesday, April 18th at 6pm, the Department of Art History will host Filiz Çakır Phillip, curator of the Aga Khan Museum of Islamic Art in Toronto, for a public lecture and direct collaboration with students in Professor Doron Bauer’s undergraduate and graduate seminars in Islamic art.

The Aga Khan Museum of Islamic Art was founded in 2014 to house and display the private collection of His Highness the Aga Khan. The majority of the objects in the museum remain understudied and unpublished. Since January, the museum’s curator Filiz Çakır Phillip and Art History Assistant Professor Doron Bauer have been collaborating to research objects in the collection. As part of the collaboration, students in Dr. Bauer’s undergraduate and graduate seminars “The Art of Islamic Spain” are researching objects from Western Islamic lands and will rewrite the objects’ fact sheets. Filiz Çakır Phillip will visit FSU to discuss the students’ research and to present a public lecture on the museum in G40 WJB.
