Curator’s Statement

This exhibition was curated to feature Florida State University’s Department of Art Graduate Photography Area.

The exhibition acknowledges and celebrates the contributions of all of the past graduate photography faculty of the Department of Art dating back to the late 1960s: Robert Fichter Professor Emeritus; my current colleagues John Mann and Pat Ward Williams; past colleagues during my tenure Daniel Kariko, Tim Keating, Mary Jo Toles and Tracy Longley-Cooke; and faculty before my tenure Virgil Murano and Evon Streetman.

The exhibition includes 34 Master of Fine Arts Students (the terminal degree in the field) dating as far back as 40 years, along with 4 current graduate students.

The art work in the gallery serves as a testament to the artists’ continued passion to make pictures long after they served as stepping stones to grades or to their diplomas. All of the participants are still active as professional artists and many of them serve as teachers and professors in the field all around the country. They also actively exhibit their art work around the country to the extent that I would guess, collectively, they have been included in literally thousands of exhibitions nationally and internationally.
