FSU Art Students Awarded for Exhibits in FSU’s Digitech Showcase

Art Majors, Lawrence Weru and Marissa Pilolli, were awarded the Expression and Entrepreneur Awards for their exhibits in FSU’s Digitech, which took place on Friday, March 28th. Digitech is an exhibition that promotes digital technology and the different approaches between various media and academic backgrounds.

On display for the Department of Art were works from Digital Foundations, Digital Forms, Digital Media and Digital Animation courses. Also on display was the ArtDrone with sample footage and one of two MakerBot 3D printers with samples printed by Digital Foundation students. Being the only 3D Printer at Digitech made the department’s table a must-see for all visitors who were amazed at how students were employing it in both their class and personal work.

Expression Award
 “Boy With A Coin” by Marissa Pilolli, Religion and Art History
 Description: Shortstop motion video originally created to fulfill an assignment for the Digital Foundations course at Florida State University. The video has been reworked for Digitech. The original video featured a song of the same name as performed by Iron and Wine but has been removed due to licensing. The band’s frontman Sam Beam is a graduate of the Florida State film school.

Entrepreneur Award 
“AstroQueue” by Lawrence Weru, Biological Science and Studio Art
Description: a patent-pending cloud-based app, which allows people to share and manage real-time waiting lists using any device, from anywhere. Astroqueue acts as a digital waiting list for any given site. It is used in sites that function in various ways to achieve the common goal of organizing client traffic. A device can be transformed into a kiosk, which works much like a clipboard to collect custom information from clients as they join the queue.
