The graduate program of Florida State University Department of Interior Architecture + Design has been ranked by DesignIntelligence, a yearly publication of the Design Futures Council, as the “#1 Most Admired” in a national survey of deans and chairs of the discipline. DesignIntelligence cited the FSU graduate program for its strong overall reputation, research and preparation of design educators. The undergraduate Interior Design program at FSU was also noted as the #5 Most Admired in this national survey. Upon the acknowledgment of this year’s award, the program will be been recognized as the most
respected in the country for two consecutive years.
The Design Futures Council is an “interdisciplinary network of design, product, and construction leaders exploring global trends, challenges, and opportunities to advance innovation and shape the future of the industry and environment” (“Design Futures Council“, DesignIntelligence).
The Design Futures Council publishes the DesignIntelligence yearly survey, ranking programs of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and industrial design.
FSU Department of Interior Architecture + Design, housed in the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance, encompasses a CIDA accredited undergraduate curriculum and master’s studies for the First Professional, Advanced Professional and Master of Fine Arts student. Students focus on design theory, history and technical skills, as well as studio classes addressing residential and commercial spaces, such as health care, retail, office environment, hospitality and designs for special populations such as children, elderly and others in need of supportive housing. The curriculum prepares students to work in interior
design firms or as interior designers in architecture firms–as well as in a number of other design-related settings. Alumni work in architecture and interior design firms across the nation, and graduate student alumni additionally teach and conduct research in colleges and universities, both in the United States and abroad. Faculty provide significant personal attention to graduate students, seeking to set them up for success both in their academic activities and their eventual careers in practice and teaching.
