Florida State University’s School of Dance will showcase the talent of faculty and students during its annual Days of Dance concert series, co-directed by Assistant Professors Tiffany Rhynard and Caleb Mitchell. This year’s performances will include a special tribute to renowned dancer Merce Cunningham as part of the Merce Cunningham Centennial Celebration. In conjunction with the Merce Cunningham Trust and the FSU College of Music, the School of Dance presents Minevent, a sequence of excerpts from dance works by Merce Cunningham. The work was restaged by former Merce Cunningham dancer Silas Riener and will feature live music composed and performed by Stephen Montague, visiting professor in the FSU College of Music.

Other works to be featured include Assistant Professor Ilana Goldman’s new choreographic work, Tigida Pipa, which is inspired by Montague’s composition of the same name. Professor Tim Glenn brings his original projection and set design together to create a futuristic journey travelling on high-tech floating tracks in his piece, Iron-horse Ocean. Professor Jawole Willa Jo Zollar brings Shelter (1988) The Belongo Excerpts to Days of Dance, a program originally created for Urban Bush Women but has recently been restored for the Alvin Ailey Repertory Company.

Days of Dance will run as two separate full-length programs. Program A will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 19 and 27, and at 2 p.m. April 20. Program B will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 20 and 26, and at 2 p.m. April 27. All performances will be held at the Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre in Montgomery Hall, located on the FSU campus. Pre-Show discussions will take place on Friday at 6:45 pm April 19 and 26. Graduate students will share dramaturgical notes on dances made by student choreographers.
