Alumnae Maggie Allesee
(BA 1949, Honorary PhD 2014) may call Detroit home, but Allesee, the first woman to letter in a FSU varsity sport (cheerleading) never stops cheering for the Seminoles. A true supporter, she watches every FSU football game, returns every year to be part of homecoming festivities, and makes an annual visit to the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography, the choreographic center that she endowed over a decade ago. The Center, one of only two choreographic centers of its kind in the country, has elevated the value of creative process in dance nationally, and solidified FSU’s School of Dance as a premiere academic program and source of dance research.
Back home, Maggie is a major force in Detroit’s dance world, most recently serving as Executive Producer of Dance on Detroit!, a show promoting Detroit as a haven for dance of all kinds. MANCC Director Carla Peterson contributed to Dance on Detroit!‘s second episode, which aired on September 1, 2015.
FSU College of Fine Arts thanks Maggie for all she does to promote dance, and for her unwavering support of the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography and Florida State University. Watch for Maggie in FSU’s homecoming parade on Friday, November 13, 2015!
