Graduate Faculty Mentor Awards Program

Please review the below memorandum from Dean Marcus regarding the Graduate Faculty Mentor Awards program and share with your department’s faculty, staff, graduate students, and graduate alumni. The Chairs/Director’s offices should collect nominations directly and submit as a group to the Office of the Dean as explained below.

Purpose of the program

“to recognize faculty mentors whose dedication to graduate students and commitment to excellence in graduate education and mentoring have made a significant contribution to the quality of life and professional development of graduate students at Florida State University.”

Eligibility

Eligible faculty must be current FSU faculty members with graduate faculty status, co-doctoral, or co-masters directive status, serve as a graduate mentor, and have been employed at FSU for at least five years. Both tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty are eligible. Faculty on courtesy appointments are not eligible. See attachments for additional information, instructions & award criteria.  

Award benefits to recipient

$3,000 award* and recognition at the Spring 2015 Faculty Awards Ceremony; up to 5 awards will be given 

Who may nominate? 

All currently enrolled FSU graduate students, graduate student organizations, graduate alumni, faculty, and staff may nominate candidates for this award.  The Chair/Director’s Offices should collect their unit’s nominations and submit together to the Office of the Dean as explained below. 

Due to Office of the Dean: 

at or before the close of business January 30, 2015. 

Please submit to the Dean’s Office: 

  • Nomination Form 
  • Up to three support letters as described in instructions below
  • List of graduate courses taught over past 5 years (2009-2013)
  • Ensure each nominee’s vitae is updated and finalized within FEAS ahead of deadline, including theses and dissertation committee supervision during past 5 years, and master’s advisees (non-thesis) past 5 years 

After receiving nominations, the Dean’s Office will complete the nominations with the following components: 

  • Curriculum Vitae (pulled directly from FEAS) 
  • Graduate level teaching SPOT summary evaluation sheets 
  • Theses and dissertation committee supervision during past 5 years (2009-2013); list of mater’s advisees (non-thesis) past 5 years 
  • Nominee’s Statement on Graduate Mentoring (will be due by February 6th, 2015) 
  • Cover Form (checklist) 

 To reiterate, nominations are to be routed through Chairs/Directors offices to ensure the application pieces marked in blue above are complete prior to submission to the Dean’s Office before the deadline of January 30, 2015.
