Thank you for all who came out to celebrate the completion of the “I AM Gaines Street” mural and opening of Tallahassee’s newest brewery, Grasslands Brewery.
The “I AM Gaines Street” mural was completed on Friday, February 7th and the official unveiling ceremony took place on Saturday the 8th in conjunction with the grand opening of Grasslands brewery at 603 W. Gaines Street. FSU’s Department of Art Education was able to complete the mural project, spanning 75 feet by 12 feet, in only three weeks with the help of the many community members who came out to put their mark on Tallahassee’s Art District.
During the unveiling ceremony Director of FSU’s Opening Nights, Chris Heacox and Dr. David Gussak, Chair of the Department of Art Education at FSU, thanked the many who were instrumental in making the community mural project a success. These included the Tallahassee community, FSU’s Opening Nights for funding the project, the Department of Art Education, and Art Therapy Master’s students Sia Ngauja, Sharla Dyess and Evie Hempler, who were responsible for creating the design of the mural and organizing the project. As a ceremonial gesture, Dr. Gussak, Mr. Heacox, mural committee members, and the owners of Grasslands Brewery put the finishing touches on the wall to commemorate the completion of the 5th annual Department of Art Education and FSU’s Opening Nights Community Mural.
The event was complete with live bands, food trucks, and Grasslands Brewery beverages. Stay in touch through facebook and twitter for more exciting opportunities through the Department of Art Education.
