Interior Design Faculty Serve Organizations on a National Level

Serving in national leadership roles is a high priority for faculty in the Department of Interior Design. Professor Jill Pable is currently serving as the Director of Teaching on the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) national Board of Directors. In that role Jill serves as liaison to the teaching collaborative, the IDEC Academy which facilitates teaching workshops at the national conference and online, the K-12 committee which assists high school teachers with interior design curriculum and communicates with the liaison to the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC).

The IDCEC liaison, representing IDEC to IDCEC, is assistant professor Amy Huber. In this role, Amy works to develop and seek approval for continuing education credits for IDEC members nationally. Part of her role includes coordinating continuing education opportunities for all of IDEC’s regional conferences in addition to the organization’s national conference.

Professor and chair Lisa Waxman was recently appointed to the Board of Director for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). CIDA functions as the accrediting body for interior design and interior architecture programs across North America. CIDA-accredited programs assure the public that interior design education prepares students to be responsible, well-informed, skilled professionals who make beautiful, safe, and comfortable spaces that also respect the earth and its resources. Lisa serves CIDA as the representative from the IDEC.

Serving on a national level provides visibility for the program and keeps faculty current on national trends. Both Jill and Lisa also served as IDEC presidents in 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 respectively.
