MANCC Redefining the Standard of Artistic Expression

Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) has been recognized as one of the 10 ways Florida State University is changing the world. MANCC belongs to a special category of accolades which include, but are not limited to work in the field of breast cancer research, breakthroughs in zika virus analysis, as well as pioneers in the use of materials built for prosthesis. In 2004 Maggie Allesee bestowed the College of Visual Arts (now called the College of Fine Arts), Theatre, & Dance a generous donation which they in turn used for the creation of Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography.

Since its founding, MANCC has quickly become a globally renowned center where students, faculty, staff, and the national dance community can engage in the creative process of dance. MANCC is the first and only center of its kind that allows artists from a variety of backgrounds and concentrations the opportunity to cultivate creative ideas, and hone their skills in a diverse and nurturing environment. As a result of a substantial renovation to Montgomery Hall in 2004, the School of Dance and MANCC now call it their home.
A graduate of the Class of 1949, Maggie Allesee turned her passion and love for the school into a gift that would allow students to their own passion and love into the art of dance in return. When asked about her thoughts on MANCC, Mrs. Allesee had this to say.
When I learned of the possibility of a National Center for Choreography, I thought what a perfect place for students to be offered to study alongside the finest dance makers in the world. Through the experience in this Center for choreography, FSU offers a positive impact for developing outstanding dancers from all over the world. High levels of education are the finest gifts we can provide for our students today.
