MFA Candidate Herman Ramos Presents: “Shaped By Society”

The School of Dance‘s MFA candidate and former graduate of the BFA program, Herman Ramos will present Shaped by Society in partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance on November 18-19, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. in the Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre in Montgomery Hall, located on FSU’s campus.
Ramos’ concert tells the story of society’s expectation and the monetary worry that we face using a movement mixture of commercial, contemporary, and breakdance styles. The concert is in collaboration with FSU’s Hip-Hop organization C.Y.P.H.E.R. C.Y.P.H.E.R. will perform live freestyle exhibitions throughout the concert. Shaped by Society will be presented in three sections and features both dance majors and non-dance degree seeking students as performers. Each of the three sections is inspired by Ramos’ thesis work concerning dance accessibility.
Ramos has worked with C.Y.P.H.E.R. during his time as a student at FSU and various forms of hip-hop influence his aesthetic. The collaboration between the two for the MFA concert was a natural fit. During this same week, C.Y.P.H.E.R. will be engaged in a weeklong celebration of the original four elements of Hip-Hop. The week will begin with an evening lecture on the history of Hip-Hop on Monday, November 14, and other events and workshops will follow throughout the week.
This performance features an original music score by aspiring producer and FSU student Kris Barnett that contains some explicit language.
