Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) Artists Ranee Ramaswamy and Aparna Ramaswamy, co-Artistic Directors of Ragamala, return to Tallahassee to perform Written in Water as part of Opening Nights on October 5 – 6, 2016. Written in Water was commissioned by the Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (Lead Commissioner) and Opening Nights Performing Arts (tickets may be purchased at Seven Days). Ragamala previously performed their work Song of the Jasmine as part of Opening Nights, December 3 – 4, 2014.

Written in Water is a new full-length multi-media production that employs elements of chance and improvisation. Ragamala, including their performers and musicians, spent two weeks in residence with MANCC in March 2015 developing the work. To see the work in progress at MANCC, visit Ragamala’s MANCC page for photos and the description. The residency was made possible, in part, by the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Choreographers, a program funded by The McKnight Foundation and administered by Northrop that supports Minnesota individual artists. In addition, Aparna Ramaswamy was recently granted a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award (DDPAA) for continued dedication to her work in contemporary dance.
