The Art Therapy Association at Florida State University will be holding their First Annual Art Auction this Saturday, February 7th from 6:00-9:00pm at the Black Dog Cafe along Lake Ella in Tallahassee.

This event will feature a wide variety of art pieces created by student artists and members of the association, all of which will be available for purchase. In addition to the local art, there will be themed gift baskets in the auction that include items from various community partners and small businesses in the area. Some of the basket themes include: “Night Out on the Town,” featuring a gift card from The Front Porch, “Stay-Cation,” featuring a night’s stay at Governors Inn and “Gardener’s Paradise,” offering a multitude of gardening treasures. Attendees of the auction will also have the opportunity to mingle with Art Therapy Students and partake in small treats and hors d’oeuvres while participating in the event.

The Art Auction is organized by second-year Art Therapy Master’s graduate student and head of the fundraising committee for the Florida State Art Therapy Association, Emily Hayes. She tell us:

The Front Porch generously donated items for the silent auction

“I have been working hard to get donations for the silent auction.  We have around 12 baskets that will be auctioned off.  The FSU community has been beyond supportive.  We have received donations from over 25 local businesses around town.  This is going to be a great event that no one should miss.  Our students have been hard at work creating beautiful art pieces that will be displayed and for sale at Black Dog cafe for the entire month of February.”

The Public Relations Officer of the organization, Jamie Nelson, states:

“Members of the organization are very excited. The Spring Fundraiser is one of our largest events, and is always a blast! Though we do a lot of work with the community throughout the year, the Spring Fundraiser is the only event where our organization receives profit, and the generosity of the community is what allows us to attend the National Art Therapy Conference in the summer. Members are always grateful to have the support of the community and the opportunity to mingle while promoting the importance of the therapeutic arts.”

Members of the FSU Art Therapy Association participate in community service events throughout the year in effort to promote awareness of the benefits associated with Art Therapy and to engage the community in the therapeutic arts.

Proceeds from this event will assist in funding students to attend the Annual Art Therapy Conference that will be held in Minneapolis in July. The event is family friendly and student members of the association assure that all members of the community are welcome to attend this event. Feel free to invite friends and acquaintances to this fundraising endeavor.
