School of Dance Presents Two Programs for “Days of Dance”
Florida State University’s School of Dance will present two different programs of exciting works. Program “A” will run April 10th and 18th at 8pm with a 2pm showing on April 11th. Program “B” is featured April 11th and 17th at 8pm with a 2pm show on April 18th. All performances will be in the Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre in Montgomery Hall, located on FSU’s campus. Tickets can be purchased through the Fine Arts Ticket Office.
Days of Dance highlights both student and faculty work and features some site-specific choreography in and around Montgomery Hall.
The Performances
Tim Glenn
School of Dance Professor, Tim Glenn is premiering a work titled, zErO, oNe. It is a movement study based on the geometry of lines and circles in space. The work is inspired by binary data and involves a two-source projection design that is highly synchronized with the cast of fourteen dancers. The design of this work began during a choreographic residency at the Harrison School for the Arts, Lakeland, FL, in October 2014.
Jawole Zollar
Jawole Zollar is a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor at FSU as well as the Founder and Artistic Director of Urban Bush Women. She is showing Body Talk in Days of Dance. The work is an exploration of language in the body, in the voice and in music. It was originally choreographed for Kanisha Brown’s MFA concert in 2008 and has since been adapted to include solo material developed by Catherine Dénécy’ during her tenure with Urban Bush Women.
Anthony Morgan
School of Dance Professor Anthony Morgan is premiering a new work, For Hills & Valleys, at Days of Dance. It depicts an athletic couple exploring their relationship in a landscape of moving ramps. The score for the piece was created by Roderick Gorby, a PhD composition candidate.
Gerri Houlihan
Morango, choreographed by School of Dance Professor Gerri Houlihan, explores both the interdependence and isolation of an intimate relationship. The haunting score by Thomas Oboe Lee provides a rich environment for this physical and sensual duet.
Hannah Schwadron
New faculty member, Hannah Schwadron brings the premier performance of Barring None to Days of Dance, made in collaboration with her savvy student cast and an inspired rehearsal with School of Dance graduate student, Mary Roberts. The original ensemble score of set choreography and improvisation moves between meaning and play in partner, solo, and group structures that shift again and again throughout the piece.
Ticketing
Tickets for Days of Dance performances are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens, $10 for children and non-FSU students, and $5 for FSU students with ID. All seating is general admission.
