School of Theatre Alumni in West Side Story Tour

Published November 30, 2012

School of Theatre alumni Andres Acosta (BFA  class of 2011) and Max Chucker (BM class of 2012) will appear in the national tour of West Side Story on Thursday, November 29 at the Leon County Civic Center. While at Florida State, Acosta performed in Hair, RENT, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and The Drowsy Chaperone, among others.

“FSU absolutely prepared me for this life. The individual attention was key for me, because I needed to be pushed to be my best,” Acosta said. “I had just started dancing in college and didn’t have a lot of experience. Thanks to Kate Gelabert, who is the head of the program, I walked out of there a very competitive male dancer in the business.”  The West Side Story tour is scheduled to run through July 2013. On this swing through Florida they will be playing Jacksonville, Sarasota and Gainesville, with Clearwater and Daytona slated for next year. And, of course, eventually Acosta would like to get back to New York and perform on Broadway.
