Senior Faculty Member, Pat Villeneuve, Gives Presentation Tour of Southeast Asia
Art Administration Senior Faculty member Pat Villeneuve, earlier this November, embarked on a presentation tour of China and Taiwan, which included speaking at two separate international conferences as well as at three universities, including a brief residency. Her 36 hours of traveling began on the 5th of November, and she made the return trip on the 19th of November. Here’s what she was up to…
Dr. Villeneuve spoke at the 2013 Art Taipei Forum, a subset of Art Taipei, and the longest-running international art fair in Asia. The Art Taipei Forum brings together art professionals to discuss topics relevant to the theme of the year. The theme of this year was Asian Value, and focused on the major economic indicators of Chinese art and the development of this trend. The speakers of the forum were planned around the perspective of Art Economy with the two major topics being Urban Art Economy and the The Value of Arts for Business and Institutes. Dr. Villeneuve’s talk focused on the subject of Arts Administration: The Business of the Arts. At the Taipei Art Fair she also ran into Chia Rao, an Art Administration MA alumni, who is now working at a commercial art gallery in Taipei.
After the Art Taipei, Dr. Villeneuve visited Judith Wang who is the Chief of the Education Division of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung, China who was also recently a visiting scholar for the Department of Art Education here at Florida State University in 2012.
Following this visit, Villenueve traveled to the National Changhua University of Education, in Taichung, Taiwan, to give her presentation from the Taipei Arts Forum. The University boasts graduate programs in Education, Special Education, Gifted Education, Guidance and Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Villeneuve discussed Arts Administration: The Business of the Arts.
She returned to Taipei and spoke on evaluating exhibitions for a graduate class at the National Taiwan Normal University.
Next, Dr. Villeneuve traveled to Changchun, China for the 17th Art Festival at the Jilin College of the Arts as an invited scholar and conducted a brief residency at the college. She led four presentations, including two lectures, a symposium with the faculty on teaching practices, and a workshop. Her host was Professor Allison Zhang, who was a visiting scholar in the Department of Art Education in 2012-2013.
Her last stop was Guangzhou, China, for the 4th World Chinese Art Education Symposium held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Along with her was Florida State University Art Education doctoral alumni, Yichien Chen Cooper, the coordinator and acting chair of the World Chinese Art Education Association. Her conference lecture was Art Museums as Partners in Community-Based Service Learning. One of the other speakers at the conference was Dr. Jeunghee Kim from Korea, who was a visiting scholar in our department in 2003-2004. Dr. Villeneuve also conducted a master class at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with her translator, Muyi Liu, AD MA alum and a graduate of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. After the master class she met with Muyi Liu and Professor Ching-Fang Lee, associate professor, Department of Art & The Graduate Insitute of Art Education, National Chunghua University of Education.
