Visiting Artist Lecture Series: Conrad Bakker

Conrad Bakker is an Associate Professor of Art and MFA Studio Coordinator for the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. Bakker’s ongoing series of Untitled Projects engage the careful construction and specific placement of carved and painted objects so as to critically comment upon and make tangible the everyday economies between persons and things and spaces. Bakker has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, including Tate Modern (London), Galerie Analix Forever Geneva), the New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York), the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago (Chicago), Fargfabriken (Stockholm), Art in General, Artists’ Space, and Apex Art (New York City), Lora Reynolds Gallery (Austin), in strangers mailboxes and on his front lawn.
The College of Fine Arts Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series

Katerie Gladdys‘ artwork and research interrogates and re-presents marginalized spaces such as agricultural land, abandoned groves and orchards, sanitary canals, the liminal zone between suburban and rural, housing subdivisions, the occasional national or state park, domesticity and disability and the digital images of landscapes generated by satellites that populate the nightly news. She seeks to transform mapped landscapes and familiar interactions into alternative geographies that transmits her own sense of wonder in the ubiquitous, encouraging others to look more closely at what constitutes their everyday existence.[/tab] [tab]

William Lamson is an American installation and sculpture artist, working from Brooklyn, NY. His work includes small performances and actions that create objects and images. His works include “A Line Describing the Sun,” a 366-foot arc carved into the Mojave Desert by sunlight focused through a lens, “Diving Meteorology,” a communications tower transformed into a musical instrument, and “Solarium,” a hilltop chapel/greenhouse made with panels of caramelized sugar.[/tab] [tab]

John is a Brooklyn based curator, painter and new media artist whose work draws upon both analytical and primitive processes. In addition to gallery exhibitions, his large-scale public art pieces include: “To the People of Orlando” a city block long permanent public art installation, mapping projections on the façade of The New Museum and Manhattan Bridge Anchorage. He was a visiting artist and instructor of Art & Science at Eugene Lang College | The New School for Liberal Studies. Current projects include “Mixed Botany”, a public art commission for a series of large-scale interactive light sculptures at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and a solo exhibition at Galeria Carles Taché in Barcelona.[/tab] [/tabcontent] [/tabs]
