Sarah Black-Sadler

Sarah Black-Sadler (b. 1988, Adak, Alaska) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Tallahassee, FL. Working across painting, quilting, collage, and ceramics, she treats all of her work through the conceptual lens of the quilt; piecing together found materials to explore themes of interdependence, memory, and care. She received her MFA from the Mount Royal School of Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2021. Her work has been exhibited widely throughout the eastern seaboard, including at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, the Washington Project for the Arts, and the LaGrange Museum of Art. She was a studio assistant at Penland School of Craft in 2025, is a member of the Florida CraftArt Emerging Artist Cohort, and is the recipient of the Gold-Stern Emerging Artist Award and the Johns Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute artist fellowship. She is currently a Visiting Faculty member at Florida State University. Black-Sadler is at work on Creatures of Love: Essays on the Joyfully Contaminated, a book-length collection of lyric nonfiction that draws on the biology of the siphonophore: a colonial organism that survives only through radical interdependence. The collection argues that individuality is structurally porous, and that care makes that porosity visible
