Artists Explore the Natural World in Boundless Terrain

The Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts is excited to announce Boundless Terrain, a new exhibit coming to the museum from August 22 through December 10, which will explore the natural world as a site of connection through time and space.

An art installation hangs on a white gallery wall. It is made up of a wide variety of seemingly found objects juxtaposed with
Part of the installation “Things look different from far away” by Doug Baulos.

“We are thrilled to be opening Boundless Terrain,” said Meredith Lynn, Interim Director and Curator of MoFA. “We began this project during the pandemic, when the outdoors became an even more integral site of community building for so many of us. Landscape has always been a source of inspiration for artists, and the work in this show expands upon traditional approaches to representing the natural world to consider how place brings us together.”

Boundless Terrain will feature the work of Tiffany Shaw, Doug Baulos, Sky Hopinka, Allison Janae Hamilton, Shoog McDaniel, Caroline Monnet and Laura Ortman, Erin Ethridge and Colleen Marie Foley, as well as selected works from MoFA’s Permanent Collection. The show includes video, photography, sculpture and installation.

A free, public opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Thursday, August 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

As part of Boundless Terrain, MoFA will be offering resources to students and other visitors to educate them about outdoor resources in the Tallahassee area. Guides, maps and more will be available to encourage spending time with nature.

Throughout the fall, MoFA will host a series of free public programs in connection with the exhibition, including lectures by the artists, makers events and workshops. Follow MoFA on Instagram at @fsumofa or visit mofa.fsu.edu for the latest updates on these activities.

This Fall, the Museum is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10-5, Thursday 10-8 and Saturday 10-4. Visitors can also enjoy two other current exhibits, Shape Shifting: 35 Years of Late Modernist Prints and It’s a Lot Like Falling in Love: Legacies of Naiad Press in the Tallahassee Lesbian Community.
