Douglas Hildeman, Dean’s Advisory Council

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Douglas Hildeman (MFA Technical Production 2007) has over 25 years of experience in the live entertainment industry. He holds a B.F.A. 2003 in Technical Production and Design from Marshall University under the mentorship of Mike Murphy (FSU MFA ’79). Following the completion of his BFA, he attended the Yale School Drama where he graduated with a Certificate in Technical Production with a concentration in theatrical lighting. In 2007 Douglas received his MFA in Technical Design and Production from Florida State University under the mentorship of Robert Coleman.

Professional work experience includes Production Manager for 1st Stage Theatre in Tysons Virginia, Technical Director at the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University, and Production Manager of the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center at The University of Notre Dame. Doug is also an active member of USITT (United State Institute of Theater Technology) and annually volunteers at the Fischoff National Chamber music competition.

Douglas joined Pixelumen Lab in 2019 and currently serves as the senior field service technician. Pixelumen Lab is an architectural lighting and controls company who uses storytelling to guide its integration work. They collaborate with Designers, Owners,  manufacturers, and Contractors to provide customized programming solutions for a range of technologies including: LED Lighting, motors, fire, audio systems, video, water, wind fans, and much more. He is responsible for commissioning new projects, maintaining/ inspecting current installations, general field service and office work. He is passionate about the intersection of design and technology and how he can join these two to create impactful experiences that inspire.

Doug is excited to help his fellow theatre alums reconnect with FSU in meaningful ways, and started this Spring by connecting with FSU’s Technical Direction program at USITT.
