FSU School of Theatre kicks off 50th year of excellence with season opener ‘9 to 5: The Musical’

The School of Theatre at Florida State University kicks off its 2023-2024 season with the comedy “9 to 5: the Musical.”
Based on the hit 1980 movie, the musical features a new score with music and lyrics by Nashville’s iconic country diva, Dolly Parton. Performances will run from Oct. 13-22 in the Richard G. Fallon Theatre, with 8 p.m. showings Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. matinees on Sunday.
“This show combines my favorite things: slapstick, farce, fantasy and social commentary, all rolled into a delightful evening of musical theatre,” said Director Jacob ben Widmar. “The design team has crafted a fun, vibrant world, and Dolly Parton’s music will have audiences dancing in their seats.”
The School of Theatre will host a $5 preview event on Thursday, Oct. 12, that is open to the public.
About “9 to 5: The Musical”
“9 to 5: The Musical” premiered on Broadway in April 2009 and tells the story of three female coworkers pushed to the edge by their egotistical, hypocritical boss. The trio hatch a hilarious plan to turn the tables on their sexist supervisor, giving their workplace an empowering makeover along the way. With an original score by Dolly Parton, this joyful musical celebrates friendship, teamwork and sticking it to “the Man.”
