School of Dance

Beth Twigs (she/her) is a multimodal choreographer, educator, and former professional dancer who joined Florida State University as an Assistant Professor in the School of Dance in 2026.

Beth’s professional performing career includes a decade with Ballet Austin under Artistic Director Stephen Mills, performing works by George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Nicolo Fonte, Thang Dao, KT Nelson, Dominic Walsh, and many others. She holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Washington, where her graduate work examined consent, power, and gender structures within traditional ballet spaces. Prior to joining the faculty at FSU, Beth taught in higher education at the University of Wyoming, where she served as the primary ballet instructor in the Department of Theatre and Dance. Her pedagogy integrates a rigorous technical focus with an emphasis on individualized somatic mobility, mechanics, and aesthetics. In the studio, Beth encourages the development of student autonomy, critical thinking, and curiosity.

Her recent creative work continues to expand her interdisciplinary research into power, identity, and visceral physicality.
