Daejin Kim

Associate Professor

Interior Architecture and Design

Daejin Kim is an Associate Professor of Interior Design at Florida State University, specializing in the intricate relationship between the built environment and human health and well-being. His teaching portfolio includes courses in healthcare design studios, research methods, and environmental psychology for design, catering to both undergraduate and graduate students. His academic focus emphasizes the impact of the built environment on the health and well-being of older adults.

Daejin earned his bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Inha University and his master’s degree in Housing and Interior Design from Yonsei University in South Korea. He completed his PhD in the Department of Interior Design at the University of Florida and pursued post-doctoral research training at North Carolina A&T State University, where he contributed to a large grant project focused on developing aging-in-place strategies for low-income older adults.

Daejin is the author of the book Space Planning for Healthcare Design (2025) and currently serves on the board of directors for the Journal of Interior Design. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Iowa State University. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals and presented at various national and international conferences. His contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Kenneth Tremblay Early Career Award from the Housing Educators & Research Association and a Faculty Research Award from the College of Design at Iowa State University.
