Assistant Professor
School of Theatre
Dayle Towarnicky is a theatrical teaching artist and production coach. She specializes in training the speaking voice; guiding actors as they develop skill and artistry with breath, posture, alignment, vocal interpretation, heightened text, and the performance of accents and dialects. She holds certifications in both Knight-Thompson Speechwork as well as the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education and holds two Masters in Linguistics and Professional Voice Practice. Dayle particularly enjoys coaching student-actors in production work as they transfer skills from the classroom to the stage; she has coached 40+ post-secondary educational theatre productions.
Her research is focused on investigating voice-training methodologies through the lens of linguistics. A proud member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, Dayle researches how trainers conceptualize theoretical aspects of voice and speech, which influence the way they practice and teach the subject. Her recent, award-winning article “Reexamining Glottalization and Health in Voice and Speech Pedagogy” was published in VASTA’s academic journal, the Voice and Speech Review. Dayle has served as Editor / Associate Editor for VASTA’s quarterly newsletter, the VASTA Voice. She is also an active member of VASTA’s special interest group HealthCore, which focuses on voice care for professional voice users and others. Along with VASTA membership, Dayle is also a member of the Feldenkrais Guild of North America.
Originally from the Columbus, Ohio area, Dayle trained, taught, and coached in the NYC area for 15 years.
