
Monique Jones

Monique is a native of Kansas City, Missouri. A former ballerina, she attended the KC Middle School of the Arts, and graduated from Paseo Academy of the Visual & Performing Arts high school with an Arts Certificate in Dance. A company dancer with the KC District Dance Theatre and dance protégé under acclaimed choreographer Leni Wylliams, she was awarded full dance scholarships to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Gus Giordano Dance, and the Joffrey Ballet.
A scholar of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporate, Monique is an alumnus of the University of Iowa where she served as a Resident Assistant and received B.A. degrees in both Dance and Journalism. She was a company dancer with the University of Iowa-Black Genesis Dance Theater from 1996-1998, and later become their Artistic Director from 1998-2000.
Monique was a company member with the Movement Source Dance Company and served as Student Services Assistant at Scottsdale Community College under the direction of Dr. Virginia Stahl. In 2006 (as a 3-year recipient of the USA Access to Education Fellowship) she became the first African American woman to receive a Master of Fine Arts in dance from Arizona State University.
A choreographer and professional dance artists, she has served as Dance Director for St. Augustine High School and before relocating to Tallahassee, Monique was the Director of Operations for Missouri Contemporary Ballet, visiting dance professor for Stephens College & Missouri Valley College, Events Coordinator for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Missouri, and Office Support IV for the Biomedical Sciences College at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was honored to work for both Tommy Thompson and Dr. Douglas K. Bowles.
