Research Achievements & Creative Impact

Faculty and students in the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University are nationally and internationally recognized for their contributions to scholarship, artistic innovation, and public engagement. From MacArthur, Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Fulbright awardees, CFA faculty lead groundbreaking research and creative work that shape the future of the arts and humanities. This culture of excellence extends to our students, who present and publish original research, earn prestigious awards and fellowships, stage exhibitions and performances across the country, and engage communities through innovative, interdisciplinary projects. Together, CFA faculty and students exemplify the power of the arts to explore complex issues, generate new knowledge, and transform society.

We champion research that explores the social, cultural, and civic potential of the arts—through critical inquiry, creative experimentation, and public engagement. From visual storytelling to choreographic research, performance-based activism to digital design, CFA fosters a dynamic research culture that values both disciplinary depth and cross-sector collaboration.

The College supports a wide range of research activity across its departments, schools, programs, and centers. The Office of the Associate Dean for Research works to expand the scale, scope, and impact of faculty and student research by cultivating a vibrant, collaborative, and well-supported research ecosystem.

Support includes thematic workshops and training, faculty outreach and mentorship, internal seed funding programs, and opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange within the College and across campus. We also foster externally funded research by helping faculty connect with agencies, foundations, and partners at the local, state, national, and international levels.
