Luis Castaneda

A designer and educator, Castañeda brings a strong commitment to creative exploration, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and emerging technologies.

Castañeda has contributed significantly to the growth of graphic design and visual communication at FSU, helping shape curriculum, mentor students, and connect design with broader cultural and technological contexts. His professional experience spans multiple areas of visual communication and includes extensive international work, bringing a global perspective and real-world insight to his teaching.

As Director, Castañeda will guide the certificate program’s continued development, strengthen interdisciplinary partnerships, and support a dynamic environment that prepares students for contemporary design practice. This work also informs and overlaps with his role in developing the forthcoming undergraduate Interdisciplinary Design Degree, creating connections between the two programs and a broader interdisciplinary approach to design education.

Research Areas

Luis Castaneda’s research, developed during graduate studies and reflected in his teaching approach, explores visual epistemology through a semiotic lens, focusing on how symbolic and diagrammatic representations construct meaning and knowledge.
