The Museum of Fine Arts is excited to kick off the spring semester with three new exhibitions: “Stored”, “Scherezade Garcia”, and the “Annual Faculty Exhibition” featuring Faculty from the Department of Art. Join us in celebrating the opening of these three shows on January 11, 6-8pm.
Do you ever wonder what is hidden behind the museum’s store room doors? MoFA’s permanent collection spaces will be under renovation during the spring semester, and in Stored guest curators from departments throughout the College of Fine Arts will be given the opportunity to arrange, rearrange, and change your viewpoint on some of the biggest works in our collection. Six iterations of Stored will fill the Lower Gallery from January 7 through March 31.
Scherezade Garcia is an interdisciplinary visual artist born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and based in New York. In her work she explores the history of colonization and issues of migration in public memory. She is a faculty member at the Parsons School of Design, and her work can be seen in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio in New York, and the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo. MoFA will be featuring a video installation by the artist.
The faculty of the Department of Art at Florida State University is comprised of accomplished teachers, artists, and scholars. Their work crosses media, concepts, and influences and nourishes a community of students and colleagues. MoFA is excited to show new work by this exemplary group of artists.
